Social enterprise – tools4dev provides templates, reviews and how-to guides for international development professionals and aid workers. The organization started with the belief that international development practitioners and aid workers would be better at their jobs if they had access to the right tools. Many people working or volunteering in international development don’t have specialist qualifications in the area. Even those with qualifications can be overwhelmed by complicated buzzwords, academic frameworks, and a fear that “everyone else knows exactly what to do” (even though many others are thinking the same thing).
When used correctly, simple tools for planning a program, monitoring its implementation and measuring the results can reduce stress, save time and improve the quality of the results. The aim of tools4dev is to help people find the many useful tools that are already available and explain how to use them in easy-to-understand language. We also create our own templates and how-to guides with practical tips and tricks on common tasks.
In 2021 Robert revived tools4dev. He aims to continue the project in the spirit of its founders, adding value from his experience in education technology and human rights education. Currently, Robert is gathering a team of experienced and passionate international development and aid professionals to contribute to tools4dev.

As more than one billion people live less than $1.9 a day, the imperative to address global poverty is ever present. Opportunities for careers in development are extensive in all sectors. However, competition for positions in the leading IGOs is fierce, as these organizations seek and recruit qualified candidates worldwide. Selection may require choosing one among several hundred qualified applicants and commonly takes 6-9 months to complete.
With no shortage of qualified candidates, your success in standing out often depends on how well you can make a case for yourself in this field encompassing a huge range of organizations and job roles. This 30-page premium guide can help with that.
Writing a CV is not a skill everyone learns in school or even gets to practice that much. Additionally these days most employers use A.I powered filters that reject over 70% of CVs before they ever see human eyes. This means when the pressure is on to put your personal story, work experience and skill set on paper most job seekers just don’t know how to ensure it all makes sense, can pass the automated filters and impress employers.
That’s where our partner – Careers360 comes in. You’ll get: One-on-one support from a professional writer; a custom, modern CV that tells your career story and ATS keyword optimization to seamlessly filter through Applicant Tracking Systems.

International Development is a significant part of the charity and not-for-profit sector. It’s also one of the most desirable career paths, which means there’s plenty of competition.
There are a number of organisations within International Development; some are charities, some are not-for-profit organisations. Beyond that, there are government departments and even elements of the United Nations such as UNICEF, UNIDO and The World Health Organisation that are involved. As such, it’s not just big charities that are making a difference―there are multiple organisations working to make real-world changes.
So how can you start a career in International Development with so many people fighting for the same roles? We can help with that.
